DEAD RINGER: Vintage-Inspired Fall Style Guide
Like Laura Rivers, I am a total vintage lover. I’m always scouring the racks at the second-hand shops on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles, and my favorite Sunday activity is the MelFax Flea Market. In fact I wore a vintage red dress to the Dead Ringer release party!
One of the most fun parts about writing Laura was envisioning what she would wear during some of the major moments in the book: her first day of school, her first date with Charlie, and the big Homecoming dance. Laura’s California-meets-East-coast style is definitely my favorite to play with (I’m a New Jersey to California transplant!).
So with that as inspiration, here are some favorite vintage-centered fall looks for all those major moments (that you can 100% steal).
1. First Day of School (or any day of school)
I’m so in love with these ModCloth looks from Carla T. (aka CuriousNatalia.com), so I’m just including the entire gallery. They’re all vintage-inspired, boho-chic, and total school-day material. #girlcrush
2. Friday Night Party
The beaded top says “hippie California girl” but those leather shorts are totally East coast edge. Plus you can rock them with black tights all winter long.
3. School Dance
Breakfast at Tiffany’s…in Malibu. I can see Laura getting looks for being the one girl not wearing a skintight bandage dress for a change. What I would give to own this myself…
4. Date Night
“Sweet but sexy” feels right for Laura’s first date with Charlie (or any first date). Plus this has a very Laurel Canyon-LA vibe, and only a Cali girl would rock cream all the way through fall.
5. Netflix & Chillin’
How insanely cozy is this jumper?! And if you wear it with a tiny tank instead of the chunky knit underneath, then you’ll have a very sexy lounging look…
